You want to apply Stucco Veneziano and other marble renders on ceramic coverings?

Here in this blog you will find instructions on how to apply them.

It has been very popular for some time to apply a seamless coating to bathrooms, toilets, floors and kitchen splashbacks. If the existing tiles should be left in place to avoid unnecessary work and the resulting dust, then it is possible to coat directly onto the old ceramic coverings. I have summarised a procedure that works well here.

  1. First of all, clean the tiles and the joints with special cleaner to ensure that the primer adheres to the tiles. To do this, simply clean the tiles with a cloth soaked in special cleaner. It should be wiped dry afterwards.
  2. Now brush the degreased surface with the adhesion primer with marble flour. This adhesive primer is pigmented with marble powder. The marble grains ensure the necessary bond with the mineral plaster. This happens in a mechanical and chemical way.
  3. The surface is now rough like sandpaper. On top of this comes a layer of adhesive plaster. A reinforcement fabric is embedded in the fresh bonded plaster and trowelled smooth to cover it with bonded plaster. Due to the tiles, the plaster can only dry out on one side, which increases the drying time to approx. 48 hours.
  4. Now comes something important. The dry, smooth surface is primed again with the adhesive primer with marble powder. If this is not done there is a risk that the overfilled grout pattern will show through to the finished surface. This drawing of the grid then looks anything but good. It is therefore necessary to carry out this step, although the drying times involved mean that quite a bit of time is lost.
  5. On top of the primed mineral marble plaster you can continue coating with the marble plasters from our range. If you want to use Stucco Veneziano, it is recommended to apply one coat of Creative Plaster and 2- 3 coats of Stucco Veneziano. On floors, Stucco Extra is used.
  6. If you want to have a sealer because the surface should be washable, you can read more about it here on the product page of our sealers.
  7. The connection joints are grouted with natural stone silicone.
  8. When using adhesive lime plaster in a wet room, prime with the extra-coarse adhesive primer with marble powder and it is recommended to use Tadelakt as the final coat. This takes you to the Tadelakt product page.

These instructions are for those who can leave the existing tiles in place because space makes it easy. Every now and then, people even prefer to shorten a door leaf by a centimetre instead of removing the floor tiles. For more information, see our blog Different DIY techniques.
